I have to say that this year has just been filled with nothing but surprises for me. To give you an update on the award that I mentioned in a previous post that a fellow journalist and I were up for, the ceremony took place last weekend up in Providence, Rhode Island, which we were unfortunately unable to travel to. In a competition that saw nearly four thousand entries total, we somehow managed to walk away with second place for our story. But, the story doesn’t end there. Our overall newscast was entered into the competition too, and that nabbed the highest honor of first place. Because of that win, it now moves on to the national round where it competes against the other ten regions across the country for a chance at the grand title. I don’t know if this would be considered a Cinderella story, but it’s something that you certainly only dream of happening.
Much of the credit goes to my alma mater, which may not carry the name of other prestigious journalism schools, but still provides the same level of teaching and potential for success as any college out there can. They know it too, and weren’t afraid to show off what their students can do in this front page story about us:
